As my blog continues to grow, I am receiving more comments and emails.  I am still at a point where I can answer everyone. However, some of the questions are such that I want to share the answer with all of you. I recently had a question from Miranda that I wanted to share with everyone!  Her question was:

” I am fairly new to couponing and I have been saving alot of money while doing it. However I do have a question…for example, I see that you purchased 9 boxes of Eggo Bakes. I know they were a great deal, but are you going to actually eat all of these? I am pretty sure that you will, but I am just curious as to how some couponers work. Often times it seems to me that folks do it just for the “thrill” of saying I got all of this for X amount. I agree, there is nothing like a good deal, but it seems that eventually you will run out of space with getting all of this stuff. “

While I want to respond directly to Miranda, I want to share my answer with all of you-

I understand how you feel Miranda. When I first started, I thought the same thing.. do they really only eat the stuff I see posted! Well here is the thing.. I don’t do every deal. You can’t do every deal, if you did you would be insane. I only do the deals that I know are going to work for my family. If you are couponing for the thrill of the chase, it will get old.

I do have a large freezer that I store my food in, but honestly, I don’t have that much. I really stock up on the items I use a lot. For some people even this just wouldn’t work. I have the space to keep food and NEVER throw out food! If I have too much of something, I can always donate it, however, that has not happened since I have such a large family to share with. I also make sure I check expiration dates of everything I buy. I want to make sure it has a long shelf life. For perishables, I never buy more than I can use in a week.

Remember, what works for me and my family might not work for yours. That is okay too. For example, my family rarely uses mayo. I have no need to have 10 jars of mayo in my pantry. However, another family might use mayo in many of their dishes.

I will admit there is a thrill in saving a ton of money, but that is not why I personally coupon. I coupon because it affords me the opportunity to be home with my son. Without couponing and frugality, I would have to work. I like being here for my son, so being a crazy coupon lady is a good trade off for me!

As far as the Eggo Bakeshops – there are 4 in a box, so I got 36 bakeshops, 10 of us will be going to the beach for 2 weeks (8 adults, 2 kids) These will be gone in a few days and I personally don’t eat them!

I agree with you about doing every deal, it might make you crazy in a hurry! When I find a deal that I know my family will eat/use I stock up! If it is something I think we might use, or just want to try I stock up too. There have been a few misses, but there has also been a few times that I have been able to help others with a bag of groceries (and household products) to a family in need.

The only thing I do different is when I actually make money on a product. For example the last few weeks I have made anywhere from $.05 to $.55 on items. In these cases I buy more than I need or will use so that I can use the overage to buy produce and other items that rarely have coupons. I give family and friends my excess.
