fancy friendship bracelets cover

When I was young, I spent hours making bracelets with my girl friends.

My friend Vicki and I would sit in school with string and masking tape, making friendship bracelets. We wore 4 or 5 at a time, all with funky colors and patterns. We didn’t have anything except for our string and our masking tape, but it was great girl bonding time and we appreciated the personalized gifts our friends made us.

This was in the early 80’s. It is funny how all things come back into style.  I wish I was 8 right now. The friendship bracelets of 2009 are way cooler than the friendship bracelets of 1984. In fact, the Fancy Friendship Bracelets are more like artwork. I am just amazed at what can be put together with a little how to. Some of the bracelets that little girls can make are just as pretty (if not prettier), than store bought bracelets.

bracelets

The Fancy Friendship Bracelets by Klutz has everything you need to get started making bracelets. It is a perfect gift for a tween or teenaged girl. Honestly, my son even wanted to make bracelets for his Aunts for Christmas. I am all for letting my son learn how to be crafty. The teacher/mother in me loves activities that build fine motor skills too!

So how easy is it to make these bracelets? It is easy enough that a 7 year old can follow the directions. (or like Rachael Ray says, this is easy enough for remedial crafters) There are pictures – LOTS OF PICTURES, which makes it easy for kids to follow.

fancy frienship bracelets

There are 9 different bracelets that can be made. Each bracelet type has step by step instructions on how to complete the bracelet.   You choose the color and beads — and follow the directions. It is that easy.

The book includes all the materials you need to get started. Along with the instructional book you get:

  • 40 yards of cord (This is not like the thread I used in the 80’s, this is a much nicer, heavier cord material)
  • 200 beads in various colors
  • 6 charms

If you need to get supplies, you can order them right online on the Klutz website!

I have to mention that this book is just $19.95 retail, but I picked up 2 on Amazon this morning for just $13.57 each. I grabbed one for each of my nieces. If you think about the cost of a couple bracelets, it is way over that cost. I know they will love making each other bracelets.  You can check this book and all the other fabulous Klutz books HERE.  You can also become a Klutz insider and get 25% off your purchase!

I love the original Friendship Bracelets book and the Fancy Friendship that you’re giving away! My husband is the Program Director at a camp and I’m responsible for planning the craft for the summer. I try hard to plan new ideas each summer, but the kids always come back to these friendship bracelets. It’s timeless and addictive…I would LOVE to win this!

It’s a toss-up between the potholder book and the friendship bracelet book – both are cherished memories of my childhood and I hope soon to be for my daughters, also. Thanks!

I don’t see it on the website, but I had a Klutz juggling book when I was younger. I’m not the best juggler, but I can get it going around a few times.
If I have to pick a book they have now, I would have to go with the Cat’s Cradle book.

I think definatley the frienship bracelets, this would be a great gift for the newest member of the family, my sister and her fiance just got custody of his 8 year old daughter who’s mom just got sentenced to 4 years in prison for beating someone up, noone in our side of the family knows the little girl (GRACE) very well being that we have all just met her so i think she would like this and my sister would be able to sit with her and do the bracelets while getting to know the child a litlle better. thanx
